一项研究分析了1965-2017年北大西洋涛动气候指数数据；来自美国国家海洋与大气管理局的1971-2017年的捕获与收入数据；以及来自美国劳动统计局的1990-2017年的美国新英格兰地区的县级捕鱼薪金、就业和机构数据，结果发现1996年到2017年之间的气候变化性造成了新英格兰地区县级捕鱼就业的估计16%的减少，这提示了气候可能在一个地区层次上影响捕鱼就业。
