Haddad receives funding for project aimed at enhancing publicly engaged scholarship in Arab region

Bassam Haddad,  Associate Professor/Middle East Studies Program Director, Schar School of Policy and Government,  received $850,000 from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, Inc., for a project  aimed at enhancing publicly engaged scholarship in the Arab region.  

With this funding, Haddad and his collaborators hope to provide intellectual, institutional, and material support to Arab scholars  and scholarship on the Arab world and the broader region.  

They also aim to strengthen and expand the networks, research, publishing, and public profiles of such scholars and to support the integration of their social science scholarship and legal research with policy and community work. 

Their ultimate goal is to have a gradual but sustained impact on public life in the Arab world. 

Funding for this project began in July 2021 and will end in late June 2023.
