At Tokyo Institute of Technology, the newly established Laboratory for Zero-Carbon Energy will hold a Launch Symposium to commemorate its opening and share its mission in zero-carbon energy research. The event will be held on Tuesday, August 31, at 15:00 JST (UTC+9).
On June 1, 2021, the Institute of Innovative Research, Laboratory for Advanced Nuclear Energy was reorganized to form the new Laboratory for Zero-Carbon Energy (ZC). ZC's objective will be to help realize a carbon-neutral society through innovative research and the development of non-fossil (zero-carbon) energy sources, as well as systems for their use. ZC will help in building the foundation of a society capable of sustainable economic growth in harmony with the environment.
ZC will hold a virtual Launch Symposium to commemorate its opening and share its mission. The event will be held on Tuesday, August 31. The symposium will have speeches by guests from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Dr. Yoshino Akira, director of the Global Zero Emission Research Center (GZR), National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology and Nobel Prize Laureate of Chemistry in 2019, and Prof. Jacopo Buongiorno, Center for Advanced Nuclear Energy Systems (CANES), Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prof. Kenji Takeshita, director of ZC will discuss the laboratory’s policies and mission. The event will also include a panel session entitled “Research & Development toward Building Zero-Carbon Energy Systems,” which will set the scope and mission of ZC for contributing to the realization of a carbon-neutral society. The session will have lectures “A Future Shaped with Zero-Carbon Energy” by Prof. Kenji Yamaji, president of The Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth (RITE), and “Carbon Energy and Regional Redevelopment Initiatives Led by Industry Liaison” by Institute Professor Takao Kashiwagi, Solution Research Center for Advanced Energy Systems, Tokyo Tech.
The event is open to all interested parties and participation is free of charge. We hope that you will join us for this exciting opening Symposium.
