A guide to molecular genomics

Book Announcement

Bentham Science Publishers

Introduction to Molecular Genomics introduces the college student to the fundamental concepts of molecular biology and genomics. The text puts an emphasis on important topics in the subject that contribute to the learner’s understanding. These topics include molecular genomics, biodiversity and molecular phenomenon behind evolution of species, modern molecular methods for enhanced genomics research, DNA modifications at the molecular level for transgenic animal species, the role of cell environment on the gene expression, to name a few. The book has been designed to suit the requirements of educational courses in molecular biology, genomics and biochemistry.

The structure and literary flavor of the book is up to the expectations of the academicians and scholars. This book covers significant topics of the subject like genomics and its spectrum, modern techniques, an overview of genetic engineering, pan genomics, the role of genomics in the environment, the significance of digital genomic era and the contribution of genomics towards the society. Although the spectrum of the subject is immense, I am glad to see that the book covers all relevant areas which are essential to understand the basic concepts of the subject.

Key features

- Covers basic concepts on key topics in molecular biology and genomics

- Simple easy-to-read layout

- Includes references for further reading

- Includes a section on ethical aspects of scientific research

Most modern sciences are well understood by scholars at the postgraduate level but there are very limited books and literature available targeting the undergraduate students. There is a need to develop literature, which is easily understandable for our young undergraduates, so they can also get knowledge of various molecular techniques.

Introduction to Molecular Genomics is a simple primer for students in applied or advanced life science courses at undergraduate levels.

About the Editors:

Dr. Javed is a young and prominent researcher in the field of Animal Genomics. She is a graduate of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with a gold medal and has won numerous awards and medals for her excellent academic record and research contributions in livestock genomics. Some of them are,  Best Student in Academics by Governor Punjab, Silver Medal in Physiology, Distinction Certificate in Pathology, Star Laureate Award in Agriculture Sciences, Best Young Researcher Award by NAYS, Best Teacher Award, etc. She has organized national and international scientific events at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences and presented her research findings to local stakeholders, animal breeders, and livestock professionals in government and private sectors. The ultimate benefit and sole purpose of her research is to raise the living standards of local farmers and impact the economy of our beloved country, Pakistan.

Dr. Asif Nadeem is an experienced researcher in the field of Molecular Biology and Genomics. He earned his B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc. (Hons) from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, M.Phil from the Center of Excellence in Molecular Biology, University of the Punjab, Lahore, and Ph.D. from the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. He has privilege of the research training with Dr. Hasan Khatib, UW–Madison, USA. He is the author and co-author of several peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Asif’s research interests are to understand the genetic basis of quantitative trait variation.

Dr. Faiz-ul-Hassan is a young researcher in the field of dairy cattle breeding. He is serving at the University of Agriculture Sciences, Faisalabad. His research interests are Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) for dissection of diversity in animal populations and identification of QTL/ genes affecting economic traits, especially growth and prolificacy in farm animals. He has received high-tech training from the state-of-the-art laboratories in China and is ambitious to explore the latest research tools for the welfare of the dairy sector.
