American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)

Join us on Friday, Feb. 18., at 12:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern time for the AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards ceremony, to be held in conjunction with the virtual 2022 AAAS Annual Meeting. To attend the ceremony, you must be a meeting attendee, whether as a Newsroom registrant or as holder of a free Basic Access Passport. We encourage you to register in advance of the event.

There were entries from 47 countries for the 2021 contest, with winners for the first time from India, Spain, Ethiopia, Zambia and Malawi. Journalists from Canada, the United Kingdom and The Netherlands also are among the winners. Six entries dealing with aspects of the continuing global COVID-19 pandemic are among the winners of the awards. Other winners dealt with important issues of equity and ethics in the conduct of science, 

Laura Helmuth, editor in chief of Scientific American and a long-time judge for the contest, will introduce the winners. Sudip Parikh, AAAS CEO and executive publisher of the Science family of journals, will participate, as will Stacey Bailey, director of communications and prizes for The Kavli Foundation, which has endowed the global awards program.
