For the second year in a row, the University of Bath has been named one of the top 10 places in the world to study sport in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022.

The league table also placed Bath in the world’s top 100 for eight other subjects – an increase of two since last year’s league table.

Bath is ranked eighth in the world to study sports-related subjects, while the University’s business and management studies, architecture and the built environment, chemical engineering, chemistry, mathematics, development studies, statistics and operational research, social policy and administration courses all take top-100 placings in their respective subject areas.

A total of 14 subjects offered at Bath were rated among the UK’s best, earning top 20 placings domestically.

Compiled by higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, the rankings name the world’s best universities for the study of 51 academic disciplines, and provide comparative analysis of over 17,700 individual university programmes taken by students at 1,543 institutions.

The scores are calculated through an analysis of performance across four areas: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per research paper, and a measure of the productivity and impact of the work published by an institutions' scientists and scholars.

President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bath, Professor Ian White, said: “These rankings reflect both the rich variety of courses offered at the University of Bath, and the depth and impact of our academics’ research. They do credit both to the extraordinary work of our staff and to the ambition and commitment of our students.

“I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all members of our community whose fields have ranked in the top 100 subjects globally. In particular, I’d like to commend the team in Sports, who continue to deliver courses of the highest quality, preparing students for careers with no limits. Ranking in the top 10 places in the world is an achievement my colleagues should be immensely proud of.”

Bath is ranked highly in all national league tables, placed at 8th in the UK by The Guardian University Guide 2022, ranked 9th best overall by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022 and ranked 10th best university in the UK in the Complete University Guide 2022.

The University is named 9th in the The Times Higher Education 'Table of Tables' 2022.
