Announcing Gene x Environment (GxE) -- A new open access peer-reviewed journal

Business Announcement

Mary Ann Liebert, Inc./Genetic Engineering News

Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers announces the launch of our latest Gold Open Access journal Gene x Environment (GxE), an academic peer-reviewed open access journal with a mission to serve as a foundational resource to the burgeoning field of gene by environment.

This new journal will encompass all facets of gene by environment research including essential peer-reviewed content focused on the genetic determinants of environmental risk, environmental epigenetics, exposomics, chemical and non-chemical stressors and health outcomes, functional genomics of complex traits, molecular epidemiology, and much more.

Spearheaded by Editor-in-Chief, Graham Parker PhD, of the Department of Pediatrics, Wayne State University School of Medicine, the Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors, Detroit Michigan, and Editor-in-Chief of Stem Cells and Development, and Executive Editor of Nucleic Acid Therapeutics, GxE aims to be a premier peer-reviewed journal publishing outstanding original research and perspectives across all facets of the Gene x Environment research domains.

“This new peer-reviewed journal is essential because our understanding of our genome fails to successfully predict individual longevity and health outcomes," says Dr. Graham Parker. “To quote Francis Collins paraphrase, genetics loads the gun, and environment pulls the trigger.’ Understanding the etiology of disease triggered by exposures to chemical and nonchemical stressors requires a multi-disciplinary approach. This new journal will provide a much-needed home for global research scattered across domains and health disciplines to address the sources, mechanisms, outcomes and risk mitigation associated with our lived experience.”

Researchers in the fields of epidemiology, epigenetics, genomics, genetics, exposure science, toxicology, biology, biomedical sciences, bioinformatics, translational medicine, chemistry, and physics will be target audiences and key contributors of this new title.

GxE welcomes original research papers, reviews, perspectives, commentaries, and short reports on every aspect of gene by environment research.

Topics covered in Gene x Environment include:

  • Genetic Determinants of Environmental Risk
  • Environmental Epigenetics
  • Exposomics
  • Chemical and Non-chemical Stressors and Developmental Health Outcomes
  • Functional Genomics of Complex Traits
  • Molecular Epidemiology
  • Social Determinants of Health
  • Genome-Wide Association Studies, Metabolomics and Metabonomics
  • Differential Susceptibility To Environmental Triggers
  • Gene X Environment Screening Tool Development
  • Gene X Environment Modeling
  • Precision Medicine

About the Editor-in-Chief: Graham Parker, PhD
It is my privilege to serve as the Primary Investigator of the Integrative Health Science Facility Core for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Core Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors, CURES. This role has given me eight years of experience facilitating multidisciplinary, multi-institutional research and team building in response to environmental health concerns and funding opportunities. As research faculty in the Department of Pediatrics, Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit MI I have a broad experience of developing in vitro models to test cell models exposure to caffeine, nicotine and alcohol. I also serve as Editor-in-Chief of Stem Cells and Development, Executive Editor of Nucleic Acid Therapeutics, and Ethical Advisor for Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. publishers.
