How fruit bats migrate with the green wave

Peer-Reviewed Publication

University of Konstanz

Why are volunteers standing under trees at 17 sites in sub-Saharan Africa for months, counting bats? And how is it that fruit bats transport plant seeds over thousands of kilometres?

Our photo report (with images by GEO and National Geographic photographer Christian Ziegler) includes new scientific findings about the migratory behaviour of the ecologically underestimated fruit bats, which migrate along the "green wave" and are probably one of the most unusual plant pollinators in Africa: https://www.campus.uni-konstanz.de/en/science/fruit-bats-migrate-with-the-green-wave.
