The book “Artificial Intelligence for Smart Cities and Villages” is divided into three sections to impart a better understanding of the topics to readers. These sections are:

1) Demystifying smart cities and villages: A traditional perspective

2) Smart innovations for rural lifestyle management solutions

3) Case studies. Through this book, readers will be able to understand various advanced technologies that are vital to the development of smart cities and villages.

The book presents 15 chapters that present effective solutions to urban and rural challenges. Concepts highlighted in chapters include smart farms, indoor object classification systems, smart transportation, block chains for medical information, humanoid robots for rural education, IoT devices for farming, and much more.

This book is intended for undergraduate and graduate engineering students across all disciplines, security providers in the IT and related fields, and trainees working for infrastructure management companies. Researchers and consultants at all levels working in the areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning, IoT, block chain, network security, and cloud computing will also find the contents beneficial in planning projects involving smart environments.

 

About the editor:

 Dr. Ashok Kumar is currently working as an Associate Professor in Lovely Professional University, Punjab, India. He is PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from Thapar University, Punjab, India. He has 20+ years of teaching and research experience. He has filed 20 patents, out of that two patents have been granted. He has published a number of research article in international journals and conferences of repute. He has also published several edited books. His current areas of research interest include cloud computing, internet of things, and fog Computing. He has supervised many ME dissertations. Further, he is supervising 4 PhD scholars. His teaching interest includes Python, Haskell, Java, C/C++, Advanced Data structures and Data mining

Dr. Megha is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computing at DIT University, Dehradun, India. She has received her ME and Ph.D. degrees from Thapar University, Punjab, India. She has 4 years of research experience as Junior Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow under University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, and Government of India. She was awarded with a fellowship by UGC, Government of India, in 2014. In 2017, she was a recipient of Grace Hopper Celebration India (GHCI) fellowship. She has published five national patents and one international patent has been granted. She has published many research articles in international journals and conferences of repute. Further, she is the editor of many edited books with different publishers such as CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group, Wiley-Scrivener and Bentham Science. Her research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge representation, Expert systems, Software quality, Software reuse, and ontologies. She is also the reviewer and editorial board member of many international journals.
