Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) has risen three places to rank 30th globally in this year’s US News & World Report’s global university rankings, and has topped the charts in five subjects.

To date, NTU has climbed 95 places from the 125th spot since the US News & World Report rankings started in 2014. In the last five years, the University has risen 19 places from the 49th spot.

NTU is ranked first globally in five subjects: Condensed Matter Physics, Energy and Fuels, Materials Science, Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, and Physical Chemistry (see table below).

It has twelve subjects in the global top 10, including Electrical and Electronic Engineering (2nd), Engineering (2nd), Chemistry (3rd), Chemical Engineering (6th), Computer Science (6th), and Optics (10th). NTU also ranked 2nd in Artificial Intelligence, a new subject added to the rankings this year.

Other subjects that NTU did well in were Civil Engineering (17th), Polymer Science (22nd), Mechanical Engineering (29th), Environment and Ecology (61st), Arts and Humanities (73rd), Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology (73rd), Physics (74th), Economics & Business (88th) and Social Sciences and Public Health (97th).

NTU debuted 24th in Water Resources and 29th in Education and Educational Research, the other new subjects added to this year’s rankings.

NTU President Professor Subra Suresh said: “NTU’s climb into the top 30 of the US News & World Report's rankings this year affirms its status as a leading global university that pursues excellence in education and research. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the University has been placed in the ranking’s global top 50. NTU’s strong performance in this closely-watched global ranking highlights the hard work and dedication of our faculty and staff in ensuring the world-class quality of the University’s research, teaching and international collaboration.”

This latest achievement follows NTU's climb up ten spots to the 36th place in this year's Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings announced earlier this month.

The US News & World Report’s global university rankings were calculated using 13 indicators and weights that measure global research performance.

NTU saw improvements in Citation Impact, International Collaboration – Relative to Country, and percentage of Highly Cited Papers (in both the Top 10 per cent and Top 1 per cent).

The University also performed well for global research reputation, total citations, and books published.

This year’s Best Global Universities ranked 2,000 institutions worldwide.
