The book “Extremophiles: Diversity, Adaptation and Applications” consists of fourteen chapters, of which, the first deals with the overview of all the major types of extremophiles and their mechanisms of adaptation to the respective extreme environments. The rest of the chapters, except the last one, focus mainly on the diversity of prokaryotes vis-a-vis the environmental conditions, mechanisms that the prokaryotes have adapted to live in such harsh environments, and applications of all the major types of extremophiles, including hyperthermophiles, psychrophiles, halophiles, acidophiles, alkaliphiles, xerophiles, oligotrophs, chemolithotrophs, anaerobes and other extremophiles. The last chapter is all about diverse biotechnological and industrial applications of different extremophiles leading to human welfare.
The book “Extremophiles: Diversity, Adaptation and Applications” will surely enrich the knowledgebase of the microbiologists who are doing fundamental-, or application-based research with the extremophiles. This will also ignite and inspire the mind of budding microbiologists of UG and PG level and will grow their interest on the basic microbiological research. This is recommended as a reference book for anyone interested in the field of research encouraging the readers to reach out to new boundaries of life and discoveries.
