DARIEN, IL – Indianapolis will host the SLEEP annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies for the first time this June. About 4,000 attendees from around the globe will gather June 3 to 7 at SLEEP 2023, the 37th annual meeting of the APSS.

“The APSS is excited for our program at this year's meeting,” said APSS Program Committee Chair Rebecca Spencer, who has a doctorate in neuroscience. “As the premier clinical and scientific conference in the sleep field, the SLEEP annual meeting enables attendees to immerse themselves in the latest sleep and circadian research, learn about innovations in clinical practice, and network with colleagues from across the country and around the world.”

Following a day of postgraduate courses, the SLEEP 2023 general session will begin Sunday, June 4, at 1 p.m. EDT in the Indiana Convention Center. Session types will include invited lectures, symposia, clinical workshops, and discussion groups. These sessions will explore basic and translational sleep and circadian science, as well as developments in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea and chronic insomnia. The meeting will comprise more than 100 sessions and more than 1,000 research abstracts presented in oral and poster formats (including late-breaking abstract presentations), giving attendees the opportunity to enjoy more than 38 hours of continuing education.

The keynote address, “Bridging Circadian and Sleep Science to Enhance Healthspan,” will be presented during the plenary session Monday morning, June 5, by Dr. Phyllis Zee, who is the director of the Center for Circadian and Sleep Medicine and chief of the division of sleep medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. The plenary session also will include the presentation of awards by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Sleep Research Society, and APSS.

The research abstracts that will be presented at SLEEP 2023 will be published online in a supplement of the journal Sleep. The poster presentations will take place in the poster hall during the lunch break and in the early evening on Monday, June 5, and Tuesday, June 6. Press releases highlighting some of the intriguing research at SLEEP 2023 will be available on the meeting website, and interviews with study authors and expert spokespersons will be scheduled for reporters by request.

The SLEEP 2023 exhibit hall will comprise more than 130 booths displaying the latest products and services from equipment manufacturers and suppliers, pharmaceutical companies, software companies, and medical and scientific publishers. The exhibit hall will be open Monday, June 5, and Tuesday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Wednesday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The APSS also will host the second annual PJ5K at 7 a.m. Sunday, June 4, at Military Park in White River State Park. SLEEP annual meeting attendees and Indianapolis residents are invited to register for the event and run or walk in their favorite family friendly pajamas to support research that has a positive impact on the lives of people who have a sleep disorder. Proceeds will benefit the AASM Foundation and the SRS Foundation. After the PJ5K, families are encouraged to attend a free community event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Military Park, where there will be fun activities including an inflatable bounce house, food trucks, face painting, and balloon artists.
