From 6 - 9 June, distinguished early- to mid-career scientists and scholars from around the world will convene in Kigali, Rwanda, at the GYA’s 2023 Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) to ignite interdisciplinary projects, induct 41 new GYA members, elect new leadership, and discuss the organisation’s strategic direction. Over 150 participants from 54 countries – early-career researchers and high-ranking representatives in science and policy – will participate.
In interactive panels, the Conference will address new technology and innovations to tackle grand challenges at different scales, along with the role of young scientists and scholars in contributing to global, national and regional solutions.
The meeting in Kigali is co-organised with local partner organisations, led by the Rwanda Young Academy of Science and including the Rwanda Ministry of Education. GYA meetings are held in a different country each year, and the 2023 AGM will be held in Africa for the first time since the GYA’s 2012 AGM in South Africa.
Topics to be addressed in various panel discussions and workshops include vaccine production in low- and middle-income countries, the role of young academies in helping solve global challenges, Open Science, Science Advice, and will collaborate with local and regional International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA) chapters.
The GYA is also cooperating with various local organisers and partners in Rwanda. See here for an overview.
Conference Programme is available here.
