New fusion simulations of the inside of a tokamak reveal the ideal spot for a “cave” with flowing liquid lithium is near the bottom by the center stack, as the evaporating metal particles should land in just the right spot to dissipate excess heat from the plasma.

She previously served as Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s (LLNL) associate program director for integrated weapon science, as well as Livermore’s deputy for assessment science to the DOE’s National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Office of Experimental Sciences and Livermore’s funding manager for the weapon survivability program.
