Promising Bone Cancer Therapy Advances To Next Level

A promising non-sedating therapy for bone cancer pain has proved effective for 75 percent of patients in preliminary clinical trials, and is now being tested nationwide in a larger trial. Developed at Brookhaven National Laboratory, the therapy may also be useful in treating rheumatoid arthritis.

Mapping The Root Of Cocaine Craving: Surprising Findings On Drug's Effect In Brain Regions

Scientists have found that the part of the brain that is abnormal in some people with obsessive-compulsive disorder may also play a key role in craving and abuse of cocaine. And, they report in the American Journal of Psychiatry, drug craving is associated more with the right side of the brain than the left.

BNL Scientists Report On A Natural Cleanup Solution For Polluted Soil & Incinerator Ash

Brookhaven, Carnegie Scientists Report First 'Morphing' Of Plant Enzyme Function

Scientists have for the first time turned one plant enzyme into another plant enzyme, by manipulating the genetic blueprint for the enzymes. The enzymes are important to plant oil production, and the ability to manipulate their structure raises the possibility of better "designer" oils with new properties for industrial, fuel and food purposes.

Brain Tumor Patients Offered New Hope With Expanded Trial Of Promising Therapy

Epilepsy Drug Found To Stop Cocaine's Effects In Animals

An inexpensive epilepsy drug may prove to be a highly effective pharmaceutical treatment for cocaine addiction. In addition, preliminary data suggests that it may be useful for the treatment of other addictions. The results are from animal studies that will be published August 5 in the journal Synapse.
