ORNL's Brian Post named SME Young Engineer of the Year

Brian Post, a researcher in large-scale additive manufacturing at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has been selected as a recipient of the 2020 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award by the Society of Mechanical Engineers (SME).

In the Physics Division of the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, James ("Mitch") Allmond conducts experiments and uses theoretical models to advance our understanding of the structure of atomic nuclei, which are made of various combinations of protons and neutrons (nucleons).

"I focus on describing how nucleons organize and what patterns emerge from those organizations," Allmond said.

Big science, tiny snail

This happened for Evin Carter, a research associate and wildlife ecologist at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, who helped discover a new species of cave snail just outside the Oak Ridge Reservation, an area that includes ORNL and parts of the city of Oak Ridge.
