Chromosome Connectors Take Center Stage for ORNL Scientists Studying Poplar
DOE/Oak Ridge National Laboratory
A team at the US Department of Energy's (DOE's) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) mapped the locations of centromeres in the Populus trichocarpa (poplar) tree for the first time. A subsequent analysis on the Titan supercomputer showed that the sequence of DNA at the centromere and the sequence of a protein this DNA wraps around show similar occurrence patterns and may have evolved together.
