Elemental Mapping of Surface-Modified Nanoparticles Using Cryo-EELS imaging. (Bottom left) The conventional cryo-TEM image reveals the size, shape, and dispersion state of the nanoparticles. (Top right) In the silicon mapping, silicon from the silica nanoparticles is clearly detected and visualized. (Bottom right) In the carbon mapping, carbon originating from the surface-modifying proteins is visualized, along with carbon from the supporting film on the grid.
