Incorporation of 2‑hydroxypropyl‑β‑cyclodextrin (HC) not only increases sensitivity (a-b) but, more importantly, suppresses interference from catecholamines that are structurally similar to 5‑HT (serotonin) (c-f). Electrochemical experiments (d) together with density functional theory (DFT) calculations (e) show that although catecholamines oxidize at lower potentials, the stronger affinity of HC toward 5‑HT results in minimal interference in practical measurements (f).
