Ex vivo colonic sensing setup and in situ investigation of mechanically evoked 5-HT release from intestinal mucosa. (IMAGE)
Caption
An ex vivo colon sensing device was established (a-b) to achieve real‑time, in situ monitoring of mucosal 5‑HT under mechanical stimulation (c-d). Researchers confirmed that viral mimic poly(I:C) (PIC), bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS), and the fungal component Zymosan all markedly increased mechanically evoked 5‑HT release (c-d) and, together with molecular biology techniques (e), investigated the mechanisms underlying EC‑cell mechanosensitization.
