The results of detailed nucleosynthesis calculations including thousands of isotopes are first used to train machine-learning models. Those are then adopted to predict the nuclear energy release rate for any given state encountered during a hydrodynamic simulation. This avoids having to couple nucleosynthesis calculations directly with hydrodynamic simulations, which would be computationally far too complex.
