The cover uses the chikungunya virus and its mosquito vector to symbolize the cross-border threat of emerging mosquito-borne diseases. Inspired by the ancient Chinese metaphor of “borrowing the East Wind” from Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the composition portrays TCM as drawing on accumulated experience and applying a systemic, multi-target and coordinated therapeutic approach to emerging infectious diseases. A symbolic vessel representing collaboration between traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine advances through the storm, expressing the vision of working together to navigate and address complex global health challenges.
