Osteoblast rescue (IMAGE)
Caption
Treating infected mice with a hormone that regulates bone calcium reduced the loss of osteoblasts seen in infected mice and coupled with an antioxidant to counter cellular oxidative stress, rescued HSC function. This provides a promising indication that the damage caused to these cells by severe infections can indeed be mitigated.
