金属の針金にかかる石けん膜には、複数の石けん膜が交わるところで接合点ができる。2015年、カリフォルニア大学バークレー校のジェニー・ハリソン教授とストーニーブルック大学博士課程学生のハリソン・ピューさんがプラトー問題に関する研究を重ね、このように、より複雑な石けん膜の形の説明が可能になった。
