マウスおよびヒトの下殿動脈の経路と、大腿動脈閉塞状態での変化（右）。 マウスでは大腿動脈が閉塞されると、下殿動脈は下肢部分まで迂回路となる血管を生じさせる。ヒトでは、下殿動脈は臀部までしか延びず、血管が閉塞状態で下肢部分に血液を送ることができない。
