Ecologists Capture Returning Foragers (IMAGE)
Caption
Invasive yellowjacket wasps feed an astonishing array of prey to their larvae. By sequencing DNA isolated from bits of food carried by returning foragers, ecologists created a comprehensive catalog of the wasps' diet. Native spiders and insects, and even scavenged meat from geckos and birds such as shearwater were identified.
