Panorama of the Biotest Enclosure in Sweden (IMAGE)
Caption
For more than 30 years, the cooling waters from two nuclear reactors on the Swedish coast have been pumped into an artificial enclosure in the Baltic Sea, raising the average water temperature by between 5 and 10 degrees C. Researchers are able to use this enclosure, called the Biotest pool, to study the effects of warmer temperatures on fish.
