This is an image of the filamentous fungus Eurotium rubrum growing in solid media in a Petri dish. To understand how E. rubrum has adapted to survive in the Dead Sea ecosystem, its genome was sequenced and analyzed by a team involving researchers from the US Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute, and the findings reported in the May 9, 2014 issue of Nature Communication.
