In Mice, Targeting Inflammation Linked to Parkinson's Disease Reduces Brain Cell Death (2 of 3)

image: Disease-causing Lewy-body like aggregates (red) adjacent to dopamine producing neurons (green). Inhibiting inflammasomes with MCC950 reduced these protein aggregates and prevented the loss of dopamine neurons. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Oct. 31, 2018, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by R. Gordon at University of Queensland in St. Lucia, QLD, Australia; and colleagues was titled, "Inflammasome inhibition prevents α-synuclein pathology and dopaminergic neurodegeneration in mice." view more
