Approved Cancer Immunotherapy Drug Blocks Opioid Pain Relief in Animals (2 of 2)

image: Mu opioid receptor and PD-1 are co-expressed in pain-sensing sensory neurons. Morphine antinociception is diminished in mice or nonhuman primates by immunotherapy targeting PD-1, whereas PD-L1 enhances morphine antinociception in mice. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Feb. 19, 2020, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by Z. Wang at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC; and colleagues was titled, "Anti-PD-1 treatment impairs opioid antinociception in rodents and nonhuman primates." view more
