Using 448.1 million ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, researchers have determined the complete spin density matrix of a Λ-Λ̄ pair for the first time in this decay. The measurement reveals significant transverse Λ polarization and provides evidence of quantum nonlocality through a 3.7 sigma violation of the CHSH inequality.

Traditional health-insurance reserving relies on stable historical averages, which break down when a disease spreads rapidly through a population. Researchers from China and the United States have developed a framework that tracks how long each policyholder has been infected, or their "infection age", and links this to the escalating medical costs of disease progression. The approach lets insurers feed real-time outbreak indicators, such as the reproduction number, directly into reserve estimates and stress tests.
Computer simulations show that the best float design for offshore solar farms depends on wave conditions. Flat-bottomed barge floats shield downstream panels in shorter waves, while twin-hull catamaran floats can reduce peak mooring loads in longer waves. Combining the two designs offered limited improvement, highlighting the need to match floating solar layouts to local seas.
Taller wind turbines need structures that can withstand demanding conditions on land and at sea. A review from Chongqing University highlights advances in steel–concrete towers, offshore infrastructure and vibration control. These include a hybrid tower system deployed in more than 3,200 turbines across China, alongside research priorities for supporting larger turbines and improving long-term structural reliability.
Rocks from a South China section record an extreme burst of geomagnetic polarity reversals−about 11 per million years−across the end-Guadalupian mass extinction roughly 261 million years ago. The rate is among the highest known in Earth’s history. Researchers speculate the instability may reflect deep-mantle changes that briefly weakened magnetic shielding, adding stress to an already troubled biosphere, though a direct causal role remains unproven.
A review in Science China Chemistry, jointly written by 15 research groups in China, summarizes key advances in CO2 capture and utilization. It covers capture methods and electrocatalytic, photocatalytic and thermocatalytic conversion, discusses current challenges and future directions, and provides a reference for researchers and industry.
