On the heels of a storm-saturated spring and summer of record-breaking heat in the Southeastern U.S., a team of environmental scientists from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories will soon set up a suite of sophisticated scientific instruments in Alabama’s William Bankhead National Forest. Their goal: Gather data on how clouds, vegetation, and aerosol particles suspended in the atmosphere interact to affect local weather and Earth’s climate.
