An illustration shows cross sections of two largely spherical nanoparticles before and after they collided at 31 meters per second in a computer simulation. Individual atoms within the particles are depicted as tiny dots. Scientists studying nanoparticle collisions generated images like these for many different crash types, such as those involving different velocities and different nanoparticle shapes.
