Nanoparticle with crystal facets during collision

A digital reconstruction shows how atoms in a nanoparticle with crystal facets react when that nanoparticle collides with another of similar shape and size in a vacuum. The atoms turn blue when they are in contact with the opposing nanoparticle, which is not shown. In a new study, such reconstructions helped to reveal that nanoparticles with crystal facets are better at transferring energy during collisions than nanoparticles with a more spherical shape.
