An international scientist team from China, US and Israel find that tropical convective clouds can reach much higher supersaturation than previously documented by comparable aircraft-based approaches.

A new study identifies four critical systemic flaws undermining forest carbon credit integrity and proposes a four-pillar reform framework to restore trust and align forest carbon projects with real climate and ecological benefits.

Peter H. Raven, one of the most influential botanists and biodiversity advocates of the modern era, passed away on April 25, 2026, at the age of 89. In a commemorative review published in Biodiversity Science, CAS academician Keping Ma of the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, honors Raven’s legacy with a deeply respectful remembrance—framing him not only as a scientific giant but as a cherished international friend to China’s plant science community. The article published in Vol. 34 with doi: 10.17520/biods.2026169 or cstr: 32101.14.biods.2026169.

This study develops a replicable Transformative Service Ecosystem for Sustainable Operations Management (TSESOM) model to address research gaps and empower botanic gardens to deliver integrated sustainability, conservation and visitor economy outcomes.

New 50-megapixel Earth models capture storms in detail but share four blind spots: too many, too short, too small, too intense.

New study shows that under low warming, planting trees increases global water inequality; under high warming, it reduces overall water availability.

Leaf functional traits are stronger predictors of herbivory than climatic factors or insect richness across Chinese forests, according to a study led by researchers from the South China Botanical Garden (SCBG), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Contrary to the classic resource availability hypothesis, the team found that some carbon-based defense traits may actually backfire.

The study investigated the influence of volcanic activity on centennial-scale variability of Northern Hemisphere land monsoon rainfall during the Holocene. Using a transient Holocene climate simulation (iTraCE) that incorporates volcanic forcing, greenhouse gas concentrations, orbital parameters, freshwater forcing, and ice-sheet changes, the team explored the long-term role of volcanic activity in shaping monsoon evolution.

Study reveals north–south differences in water isotopes across North America during the last deglaciation

By applying an “attribution constraint” method based on optimal fingerprinting to correct systematic biases in CMIP6 climate models,  the study significantly improved the projection reliability on the the upper‑level Hadley circulation.
