Plants: RNA notes to self
Peer-Reviewed Publication
Plants need an internal communication system to coordinate their development and growth. Within a plant, cells message each other with pieces of RNA. CSHL Professor David Jackson discovered a protein that carries these RNA messages between cells. Tinkering with this communication system may help crops grow better and adapt faster to their environment.
Organic molecules found in a meteorite that hurtled to Earth from Mars were synthesized during interactions between water and rocks that occurred on the Red Planet about 4 billion years ago, according to new analysis led by Carnegie’s Andrew Steele.
In one of the first studies of its kind, researchers have gauged how biodiversity loss of birds and mammals will impact plants’ chances of adapting to human-induced climate warming.
The UW School of Pharmacy’s Drug Interaction Database, or DIDB — the core research tool in the school’s nonprofit Drug Interaction Solutions organization — is celebrating both a national award for innovation and its independent funding since 2002 through licensing agreements with companies, research institutes and regulatory agencies around the globe.
ice University physicist Guido Pagano has won a prestigious CAREER award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to study quantum entanglement and develop new error-correcting tools for quantum computation.
IfA astronomers used the Keck Observatory on Maunakea to pinpoint three gas giant planets.
A University of Central Florida researcher is leading a new, $1.5 million Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency project to develop a highly sensitive infrared imaging system designed to enable improved night vision, space exploration and healthcare diagnostics. The project will use a new infrared detection concept based on graphene — a material that is composed of one atom thick regular honeycomb arrangement of carbon atoms.
