Texas rice growers optimistic despite challenges
Texas A&M AgriLife CommunicationsThe Texas rice harvest is in full swing, and growers hope a good second crop can bring a positive end to a challenging season, said a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service expert.
Sam Rustom, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agronomist and assistant professor in the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Eagle Lake, said it’s looking like an average year for Texas rice despite some challenges. Overall, rice production dropped 6,000 acres to around 143,000 acres.

Currently, doctors can only provide breathing support for severe flu or RSV infection, since no medications exist to speed up recovery or prevent excessive damage to the lungs. With her lab research funded by the National Institutes of Health, Bria Coates, MD, from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, is determined to discover how to interrupt the process of injury to the lungs and promote cell repair, so patients can avoid long term consequences from lung damage.
