Honduran coffee farmers are rushing to comply with deforestation-free certification that the European Union will enact in mid-2026. Unfortunately, the vast majority lack the digital infrastructure to demonstrate that their coffee complies with deforestation rules. New, open-source traceability software –  adapted for Honduran coffee farmers by a coalition of local, national and international organizations – allowed hundreds of farmers to export 20.7 tonnes of coffee, which experts say would comply with EUDR rules. The container with the coffee was sealed at a Honduran coffee company on May 27, 2025.

A rehabilitation scientist and his team at The University of Texas at El Paso are exploring an alternative way to alleviate knee pain. In collaboration with Harvard Medical School and Boston University, the team has conducted a pilot trial on an innovative method to treat osteoarthritis (OA)-related knee pain by stimulating the vagus nerve through the ear.

A small team led by Sihao Cheng, Martin A. and Helen Chooljian Member in the School of Natural Sciences, has discovered an extraordinary trans-Neptunian object (TNO) at the edge of our solar system. The TNO is potentially large enough to qualify as a dwarf planet, the same category as the much more well-known Pluto. The discovery has significant implications for our understanding of the Kuiper Belt and hypotheses that surround the existence of Planet Nine.
