Digital Science has announced the launch of its Altmetric MCP, a new Model Context Protocol server that connects AI agents to Altmetric’s research attention tracking data.

The 46th COSPAR Scientific Assembly brought together experts from astronomy, the satellite industry, policy and law to examine one of the most important challenges arising from the rapid growth of activities in space: how to preserve dark and quiet skies while enabling satellite systems to continue delivering valuable services to society. The meeting was chaired by Marco Tavani.

An Osaka Metropolitan University researcher analyzed how population decline shapes residents’ life satisfaction in Japan’s shrinking small and medium-sized cities. Using data from 5,645 residents in the national 2024 Survey on Satisfaction and Quality of Life, the study found that population decline was associated with lower life satisfaction, but that specific contextual buffers became more important as shrinkage intensified.

Drawing on examples from across the Great Lakes Basin, a new synthesis paper is examining the ecological structures and processes that help ecosystems withstand disturbances while continuing to provide the benefits that people and wildlife depend on. It highlights the importance of what ecologists call "portfolio effects": the stabilizing influence that arises when ecosystems contain a diversity of species, habitats, and ecological interactions operating across multiple levels of ecological organization. Much like a diversified financial portfolio reduces risk, ecological diversity can buffer ecosystems against environmental change and help maintain the production of natural resources over time.
