The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)
Peer-Reviewed Publication

research team led by Professor Moon Choi of the Graduate School of Science and Technology Policy quantitatively analyzed “digital ageism” embedded in generative artificial intelligence.

VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center researchers lead multi-decade analysis of new cancer incidence among survivors

Virginia Commonwealth University
Peer-Reviewed Publication

As people continue to live longer and the survival rate of cancer diagnoses increases, researchers from VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center led a multi-decade analysis studying the rates of subsequent primary cancers (SPCs), which are new cancers unrelated to the original diagnosis. The study, which was recently published in PLOS Medicine, provides understanding for how these cancer risks change over time and across generations, helping guide future prevention and monitoring measures.

A team of Massey researchers used cancer registry data from over three million cancer survivors in the United States from 1975-2021 to study patterns of SPCs, examining age, calendar period and birth cohort effects on SPC risk.

Japan’s small cities may face higher care burdens under the compact city policy

Osaka Metropolitan University
Peer-Reviewed Publication

An Osaka Metropolitan University researcher evaluated Japan’s Location Optimization Plan, a national compact city policy, using a quasi-experimental analysis across 1,595 SMCs from 2008 to 2022. The findings caution against one-size-fits-all compact city policies and suggest that small cities may need more selective, context-sensitive approaches, including smart-decline principles.
