A new study by researchers from the Future of Work Lab and the Cluster of Excellence "The Politics of Inequality" at the University of Konstanz shows: The use of artificial intelligence at work is increasing in Germany, albeit at a much slower pace than the intensity of the public debate might suggest. At the same time, the use continues to reflect social inequalities: Employees with higher educational qualifications are almost three times more likely to use AI than those with lower levels of education. Moreover, many AI applications are used on the employees' own initiative and without any formal introduction or implementation by employers.
GBD 2021 data were used to assess trends, SDI-related distributions and DALY drivers from 1990 to 2021. Cardiovascular diseases had the highest mortality and DALY rates in 2021. Communicable, maternal, neonatal and nutritional (CMNN) burdens remained concentrated towards lower-SDI settings but gradients weakened, whereas NCD burdens remained concentrated towards higher-SDI settings and gradients strengthened. Population growth and ageing mainly drove the 577 million rise in NCD-related DALYs.
Johns Hopkins Medicine investigators who have led an international research program called Zero TB in Kids are now using the program’s infrastructure and their community ties to bring basic necessities to families who lost everything in the massive flash flood that occurred in Nepal and Tibet on Aug. 26. Through a relief fundraiser, they are asking for donations that will help provide medical supplies, blankets, tents, warm clothes, food and heaters to children and families whose homes, schools and communities were washed away. This support will also extend to long-term recovery efforts, including screening and treatment for infectious diseases, educational support for children, and other aid for families in need.
