Potent melatonin receptor ligands
Research Foundation for the State University of New YorkState University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor John B. King Jr. yesterday announced that this technology is a recipient of the latest round of seed funding through the SUNY Technology Accelerator Fund (TAF), which provides grants to faculty inventors and scientists. Potent Melatonin Receptor Ligands are a series of more than 120 novel compounds developed at the University at Buffalo to selectively modulate the MT1 and MT2 melatonin receptors, which play key roles in sleep regulation, circadian rhythms, and numerous physiological processes. These compounds include receptor-specific agonists, partial agonists, antagonists, and inverse agonists with demonstrated receptor-binding activity. Potential applications extend beyond sleep and circadian rhythm disorders to include pain management, depression, hypertension, stroke, inflammatory diseases, autoimmune conditions, and metabolic disorders. The technology has generated in vitro and early in vivo data, is supported by U.S. Provisional Patent Application, and is available for licensing or collaboration.
