Facet-dependent dual active sites of CeO2 govern distinct adsorption mechanisms for fluorinated organics and inorganic fluoride
Tsinghua University PressUnderstanding how crystal facets dictate the adsorption mechanisms of multifunctional oxides is crucial for designing selective materials for fluorine-containing contaminants.
Researchers at Southern University of Science and Technology established the structure–facet–function correlation in CeO2, unveiling dual active-site mechanisms that differentiate inorganic and organic fluorine adsorption and offering mechanistic insights for rational design of advanced fluorine-selective materials.

Computer scientists design NosyNeighbor — a cyberattack to prevent cyberattacks
Washington State UniversityProtecting sensitive, precision-timed computing systems requires understanding the nature of cyberthreats. So researchers designed an attack — dubbed NosyNeighbor — that lurks on the sidelines of time- and safety-critical computer systems, “infers” what’s happening inside and adapts its malicious approach.

Polymer microsphere-confined in-situ growth of MOF-303@poly(acrylate) composites for rapid atmospheric water harvesting under arid conditions
Tsinghua University PressIn arid environments, extracting water from air remains a major technological challenge, especially under low-humidity conditions. Researchers have now developed a polymer microsphere–confined MOF composite that dramatically accelerates water uptake and release without sacrificing capacity. By growing MOF-303 directly inside porous poly(acrylate) microspheres, the team achieved faster adsorption kinetics, improved mass transfer, and excellent cycling stability under flowing air, paving the way for practical atmospheric water harvesting systems.

Breaking traditional wisdom: oxygenated groups hinder H₂O₂ electrosynthesis on CoNC catalysts
Tsinghua University PressThe incorporation of oxygen functional groups (OFGs) into cobalt-nitrogen-carbon (CoNC) catalysts is widely regarded as a promising strategy for enhancing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) electrosynthesis via the two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e− ORR). A new study challenges the long-held belief that oxygenated groups enhance CoNC catalysts' H2O2 production, offering critical insights for sustainable electrocatalysis.

A multi-condition diffusion framework enables precise prediction of drug-induced transcriptional changes
Higher Education PressDeciphering how drugs alter cellular gene expression is essential for new drug screening and personalized medical treatment. Scientists mainly rely on high-throughput sequencing to capture drug perturbation transcriptomic profiles, yet this experimental method suffers from high costs and long testing cycles, making it impossible to cover countless combinations of chemical compounds, cell lines and administration dosages.
