Veterinary apramycin resistance spreads to humans via food chains, study finds
Higher Education PressThis report features a multicenter One Health study published in Engineering, tracking apramycin-resistant Escherichia coli (AREC) across livestock chains and human populations in three Chinese cities. The transferable aac(3)-IV gene on IncHI2/IncHI2A plasmids drives cross-host resistance spread. Growing veterinary apramycin consumption lifts resistance prevalence, reminding authorities to prudently evaluate its potential human clinical application.

Skin-whitening effect of Haematococcus pluvialis extract and its synergy with niacinamide
Journal of Dermatologic Science and Cosmetic TechnologyThis study reveals a novel multi-target skin-whitening strategy using Haematococcus pluvialis extract (HPE) combined with niacinamide (NAM). By integrating B16F10 melanoma cell assays and a HaCaT/MNT-1 transwell coculture model, the study demonstrates that HPE not only suppresses melanin synthesis through tyrosinase inhibition but also reduces melanosome transfer. Moreover, HPE and NAM exhibit synergistic effects on pigmentation regulation, with combination treatments showing enhanced inhibition of melanin accumulation. These findings provide new mechanistic insights into natural bioactive ingredients and support the development of more effective, sustainable, and multifunctional whitening formulations.

Kinematics and electromyographic analysis of three types of internal rotation in the shoulder
Bentham Science PublishersInternal rotation of the shoulder—the inward rotation of the arm—is essential for many everyday tasks. Reaching behind the back to tuck in a shirt, fastening a bra strap, retrieving a wallet from a back pocket, all depend on a specific form of internal rotation in which the hand moves upward behind the back toward the spine. Clinicians commonly assess this capacity in patients with adhesive capsulitis, rotator cuff tears, and after shoulder arthroplasty using three clinical tests: internal rotation at the side (IRs), with the elbow at the side and the forearm swinging inward; internal rotation at 90°, abduction (IRa) with the arm abducted and rotated downward; and internal rotation to the posterior (IRp), in which the hand reaches upward behind the back. These tests are often used together in clinical practice, yet little research has examined whether they measure the same underlying motion or different ones. This distinction matters when clinicians encounter patients whose IRp is severely limited while IRs appears near normal, or when IRp deficits prove resistant to rehabilitation.
