Researchers from the Technion and leading U.S. medical institutions have developed ELITE, a new AI-powered MRI method that dramatically improves the speed and quality of dynamic imaging. By combining artificial intelligence with advanced mathematical modeling, the technique generates MRI images at a rate of one image per second, enabling near-continuous tracking of contrast-agent flow through tissue. In a study involving 54 breast cancer patients, ELITE improved tumor visibility while maintaining high image quality and diagnostic sensitivity. The technology could help physicians detect and characterize tumors more accurately, increase MRI scanning capacity, and potentially be applied to imaging of the brain, head, and neck, as well as other medical imaging platforms.

Research led by RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences and University College Dublin (UCD) has identified immune markers that could help doctors more accurately determine which breast cancer patients are unlikely to benefit from chemotherapy, potentially sparing some patients from unnecessary treatment.

Researchers have discovered how immune cells called neutrophils can help triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells metastasize to other organs. The team found these interactions both in animal models and human samples of TNBC.

Researchers at the Technion–Israel Institute of Technology have developed a novel nanomedicine approach that inhibits aggressive triple-negative breast cancer without delivering drugs, antibodies, or chemotherapy. The study, published in ACS Nano, describes engineered nanoparticles called MPsomes that act as biological decoys, reshaping the tumor microenvironment by preventing tumor-supporting immune cells from aiding cancer growth. In preclinical mouse models, the nanoparticles accumulated around tumors and suppressed tumor growth with efficacy comparable to advanced immunotherapies. The treatment works through biological signals encoded on the nanoparticle surface rather than through the release of active pharmaceutical ingredients. The researchers also demonstrated a scalable manufacturing process and found no signs of toxicity in major organs. The findings suggest a new therapeutic paradigm in which nanomedicines exert anticancer effects through immune modulation rather than drug delivery.

A cancer patient’s genetic ancestry can have a significant effect on how their disease progresses and on their survival. New research shows dozens of mutations that are significantly more or less common depending on the patient’s ancestry, about half of which can be targeted by existing treatments. A scoring system was able to predict patient survival, particularly so in breast cancer and glioma. When ancestry information was added, the survival prediction became even more accurate, particularly in cancer of the pancreas.

A carefully designed metal-free carbon monoxide prodrug may help prevent some of the deadliest forms of cancer from spreading, according to researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine. The recent preclinical study, published in Advanced Science, offers a new strategy to potentially reduce the recurrence of pancreatic and triple-negative breast cancer in patients who initially respond to treatment.
