The poll comes as a new report from the Physicians Committee—a health advocacy nonprofit with 17,000 doctor members—finds that Chick-fil-A is located in at least 20 U.S. hospitals or medical centers.

Turning down the dial on inflammation to protect against lupus nephritis

Lupus patients can develop an inflammation-caused condition known as lupus nephritis, which compromises kidney function. A Medical University of South Carolina team reports in Lupus Science & Medicine that cells lining the walls of kidney blood vessels expressed genes associated with inflammation when exposed to lupus nephritis serum. However, when exposed simultaneously to the serum and the investigational drug L-sepiapterin, they instead expressed genes associated with nitric oxide production, protecting against inflammation and oxidative stress.

In chronic viral infection and cancer, CD8⁺ T killer cells often lapse into “exhausted cells” that no longer can stem disease. Researchers show that a transcriptional repressor called Gfi1, or growth factor independent-1, is a key regulator of the subset formation of exhausted CD8⁺ T cells and may offer a key to reducing exhaustion.
