The October 7, 2023, terrorist attack in southern Israel forced the evacuation of countless individuals, placing intense demands on health care personnel. Primary care clinicians, who are at the forefront of treating severely traumatized evacuees, are often exposed to secondary trauma, which can affect their mental health and job performance. This study investigated the levels of burnout, well-being, and resilience among health care staff working in primary care clinics in Israel during the aftermath of the attack. 

A team of researchers at the Florida Social Cognition and Emotion Lab have just received a grant from the National Science Foundation to investigate the factors that lead people to underestimate the meaningfulness of future life experiences.

Psychologists from Reichman University in Herzliya, Israel, and the US-based University of Rochester conducted four experiments and discovered that power dynamics play an important role in how people feel and behave when it comes to being faithful to their spouses or significant others. They found that those who feel more powerful are less dependent on others, think more highly of themselves, and are more confident that others find them desirable. The psychologists discovered that perceptions of power within a relationship significantly predicted a person’s interest in other potential mates—including sexual fantasies, desires, and real-life interactions. That is, people who perceived themselves as having more power in their relationship were more interested in others as potential partners.

The current standard of care for psychosis is a diagnostic interview, but what if it could be diagnosed before the first symptom emerged? Researchers at the Del Monte Institute for Neuroscience at the University of Rochester are pointing toward a potential biomarker in the brain that could lead to more timely interventions and personalized care.
